Life as a Traveler: A Gentle Reminder for the Journey

Life is not always easy. Sometimes, the road feels long, the burdens heavy, and the worries unending. You may wonder if you are doing enough, building enough, or leaving behind something that will last. But remember, you are a traveler. This world is not your final home. No matter how rough the road, no matter how much you strive, your purpose is not to build an empire of wealth, but to build a life of meaning. We must live with this in our hearts, remembering that our time here is brief and precious.

Cherishing the Gift of Time

Each breath we take is a gift from God, an opportunity to do good, to worship, and to uplift those around us.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven."
Matthew 6:19-20

This means that our true wealth is not found in gold or possessions, but in the good we do—helping the needy, speaking kind words, and offering compassion to those around us.

Worry Not Over Money, for It is a Test

How many hearts have been darkened by the worries of wealth? Money, when pursued without contentment, leads to envy, to strife, to distraction from God’s purpose.

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
Matthew 6:24

If we make wealth our master, it will consume our thoughts and pull us away from prayer, from charity, from peace. But if we trust in God’s provision, we will find that He gives us what we need in due time.

A Legacy of Deeds, Not Possessions

When our days come to an end, what will remain of us? Not our houses, nor our wealth, nor the clothes we wore. What will remain are our deeds, the love we showed to others, the truth we spoke, the kindness we gave without expecting return.

"Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’"
Matthew 4:10

Jesus was fasting in the desert when Satan tempted him with dominion over the world. Despite his physical weakness, he demonstrated immense spiritual strength by refusing the offer. This reminds us that we should not concern ourselves with vain pursuits—wealth, status, and power will fade, but righteousness endures. Instead of seeking control over others, we should seek control over ourselves, restraining our desires and relying on God’s guidance to strengthen our hearts and minds. Our worth is not measured by what we own, but by how we live in accordance with what is good and just. He showed us that true greatness is not in ruling over others, but in serving God with sincerity and humility.

Be a Peacemaker, Not One Who Quarrels

There is too much division in this world, too much anger over things that will pass like dust in the wind. Do not waste your time in quarreling, in proving yourself right at the cost of peace.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."
Matthew 5:9

To seek peace is to walk in the way of the righteous. We are here to spread goodness through example, not to argue or battle with the stubborn. Our purpose is to be a guiding light, a testament to truth through our actions.

"By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?"
Matthew 7:16

The Example of the Early Believers

Look to the early followers of Christ, how they lived not for wealth but for righteousness. The Apostle Paul, who traveled far and wide to spread the message of truth, said:

"I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."
Philippians 4:12

His trust in God’s plan allowed him to endure hardships without despair. Let us learn from such examples and live with the same faith and contentment.

Caring for the Earth and Community

Though we are travelers in this world, we are entrusted with the care of the land and the well-being of those around us. This earth is not ours to waste but to protect, for others will come after us to walk this same path. God has given us stewardship over His creation, and it is our responsibility to nurture it with wisdom and gratitude. As it is written in the scriptures:

"The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it."
Genesis 2:15

Taking care of the earth and our communities is a form of worship, a testament to our gratitude for what we have been given. Whether through kindness to our neighbors, responsible use of resources, or preserving the beauty of creation, we leave behind something greater than ourselves—a world that reflects righteousness and care.
